My great grandparents Samuel Wood born 27th December 1877. Occupation Labourer (General Heavy Work). On Sunday 29th September 1939 he was living 9 Barngate Street Leek U.D. Along with his wife Susan Wood born 20th September 1873 listed as an Unpaid Domestic Duties.
Also their youngest son Samuel Wood of 9 Barngate Street Leek R.D. Born 20th November 1912. Occupation General Labourer. Samuel served in the Royal Artillery.
Samuel Wood's brother in law George H Sweetmore born 16th October 1889 Stone Wall Builder and two more people whose records are still officially closed, also living 9 Barngate Street Leek R.D.

Samuel and Susan's eldest son Albert Edward Wood born 20th April 1904. Occupation Hand Work Gardener. During the war he served on the Police Force at Royal Ordnance Factory Swynnerton Staffordshire. (Prior to the war he had served both in the regular army and the territorial army). On the 1939 register he was living on Bagnall Road Leek R.D. along with his wife Louisa Wood born 14th October 1901. Also listed as Unpaid Domestic Duties. There were also two more people records still officially closed.
One of the officially closed records will be my late mother Iris, daughter of Albert Edward and Louisa Wood, who was attending Endon Secondary School when war broke out. Endon Secondary School opened earlier in 1939, which if necessary would have been soon converted into a hospital. On leaving school she went to work on Bullers of Milton, manufacturers of porcelain insulators.

Some of this information came from the 1939 register listing 41 million people living on one day which was taken on Sunday 29th September 1939. The 1939 register was released on Monday 2nd November 2015.
According to the 1939 register there are 3345 Heaths living in Staffordshire.
